A young woman has launched the release of her East-Sussex cafe for queer, lesbian and non-binary members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Jasmine Forsyth, 24, has announced the launch of her very own cafe-by-day and bar-by-night called Cowgirl Espresso Bar.
The cafe which will be situated within Brighton with an expected launch date of winter 2025.
Jasmine, who is working solely independently other than occasionally her graphic designer and some aid for her social media, is also studying business and entrepreneurship.
The Surrey-based business owner will be centering her brand around vibrant colours (red and pink), connection and community.
She shared that her inspiration to open an LGBTQ+ cafe was when she had visited one herself in Vancouver, Canada in 2023 and that it had “Opened up a whole new area of possibility for me. I had this preconception that LGBTQ+ spaces tended to be centred around nightlife - so for me, this put my brain on an entirely different path of thinking”
Forsyth, who is lesbian herself, believes that the cafe will supply a “Space where being yourself is wholly accepted, where you don’t have to come out, where it is safe to be exactly who you are.”
All cowgirl related items are to be expected within the cafe such as “Cowgirl hats and boots, disco balls, cherries, and an awful lot of pink!”
The lesbian flag itself contains different shades of pink, orange and white to represent nonconformity, femininity, independence, community and more.
The cafe and bar will be opening its doors to customers and provide a “Beautiful feeling of belonging, commonality, and shared understanding”
The cafe will serve a range of hot drinks, coffee, brunch items and small plates.
Forsyth believes that there is a current gap within the market for lesbian and sapphic spaces.
Forsyth shares that [she] “is so excited to be working on this and to be making this a reality”
While the UK falls short on lesbian and queer women only spaces, those that do exist are flourishing.
Currently, London's She Soho, Gateways Club and Candy Bar all reside in success and Manchester’s stylish Vanilla' lesbian bar.
Forsyth is releasing regular updates on cafe and bar via her instagram page @cowgirlespressobar
